Anonymous asked:

How is the parasaurolophus used its horn for sound resonating idea seen nowadays?

a-dinosaur-a-day answered:

100% the leading hypothesis. we’ve even modeled what the sound would be like

i just

why would they need to be so loud? did they spend a lot of time spread apart from each other?

do you think they made contact calls, like parrots and other birds of today?

do you think they spread out foraging, calling out to each other?

"I am thinking of you. Are you thinking of me? I am lonely, but not when I can hear you. I will see you soon."

i just. fuck dude. i am once again having feelings about the parasaurolophus. i'm only crying a little bit.

a-dinosaur-a-day

I mean, thats *exactly* what we think they were doing!

Plus, lots of hadrosaurs (the group Parasaurolophus is in) lived alongside each other, and they all would have been that loud and constantly talking to each other. So they needed to be able to tell which calls were whose!

spinosnoreus-aegypticus

oh to romance a fellow hadrosaur by bellowing from a great distance, singing a song that would be totally unique, only to be complimented and returned by an equally beautiful call from across the late cretaceous marshes. I think it would be beautiful actually. I would like to see that documentary

a-dinosaur-a-day

honestly the more we are able to find out about dinosaurs and sound the clearer it is that sound was just as important to nonavian dinosaurs as it is to modern birds

the Mesozoic was loud and everyone had something to say

#i am so heartbroken i will never see a dinosaur

good news! if you've seen a bird, you've seen a dinosaur!

I know birds are dinosaurs but my heart cries to never be able to see parasaurolophus singing even if it hurt my ears I love birds so much but what a sight it must have been to watch hadrosaurs and sauropods and theropods just living their life back then. blue jays and doves and nuthatches are some of my favorite to watch today don't get me wrong and hummingbirds! they have such character if I ever had one wish it would be to travel back through time to see just one dinosaur in the era it was living

i mean this in the gentlest way possible: you need to eat vegetables. you need to become comfortable with doing so. i do not care if you are a picky eater because of autism (hi, i used to be this person!), you need to find at least some vegetables you can eat. find a different way to prepare them. chances are you would like a vegetable you hate if you prepared it in a stew or roasted it with seasoning or included it as an ingredient in a recipe. just. please start eating better. potatoes and corn are not sufficient vegetables for a healthy diet.

Need it to be easier?

  • baby carrots (good dipped in ranch)
  • Celery sticks (add some peanut butter or cream cheese for extra flavor and protein)
  • Broccoli (good with ranch, cheese, or salt/pepper/butter)
  • Canned peas (you can microwave in a microwave-safe bowl. Good with salt/pepper/butter)
  • Bell peppers (cut into strips, good with cream cheese)
  • Canned green beans (can be microwaved in microwave-safe bowl. Good with salt/pepper/butter)
  • Hummus (good with crackers or tortilla chips)
  • Salsa (good with tortilla chips)
  • Guacamole (good with tortilla chips)

Need it in something?

Can't see it:

  • Hummus
  • salsa
  • Guacamole

Can see but disguised flavor (can usually be found store bought or done at home and use different veggies):

Texture problems:

Need it soft:

  • Hummus
  • Salsa
  • Guacamole
  • Cooked carrots
  • Avocados
  • Beans (personally I prefer black beans and canned baked beans)
  • Peas (make sure to cook well, great value brand has the softest peas I've tried)
  • Cooked broccoli (note: it does smell bad while cooking)
  • Cooked asparagus (note: also smells bad while cooking)
  • Cooked zucchini and squash (good together but can be eaten separate)
  • You can also puree most vegetables and eat with a spoon or use them as a dip

Needs to be crunchy:

  • Raw carrots
  • Raw celery
  • Raw bell peppers
  • Salad (remember you can put whatever you want in it! Even if that means no lettuce)
  • Most veggies are okay raw, and are usually very crunchy

Veggies google says stay crunchy after lightly cooking:

  • Snap peas
  • Brussel sprouts
  • Cabbage
  • Water chestnut
  • Bamboo shoots

Broad texture tips:

  • You can change textures by eating raw, cooking, chopping, pureeing, etc
  • You can separate different textures to use in different ways (ie using broccoli tops in a soup and eating the bottoms raw)

It also really helps to think about why you dislike a vegetable. I found that I am scared of green foods so I like to use those veggies for ingredients in things they are well hidden for. I've also learned that watching something while eating helps because then I'm not looking at the gross green things. When possible, I also like to get help hiding it (ie using cream of celery soup in my chicken and dumplings).

This is harder to watch than the ending of Brave Little Toaster D: I don't like that the car has eyes at the end and they're pleading with you to help it!

Almost. Years ago my computer suddenly stopped working and lost everything on it. Fortunately a relatively recent backup still existed bc of my family, a recent parts switch, and dumb luck. But last year a friend of mine got hacked and lost close to everything he had done creatively in the last 17-ish years. Art. Novels in progress. Entire conlangs. DnD character Sheets. Music he had made. All gone. He never backed any of it up. Few months later I started this habit (or ritual, almost) of drawing a reminder beast any time I would make a full complete backup. In hopes that seeing these things might remind others and myself. (Another factor here is that I am an animator and some of the stuff on my computer took literal years to make. And the film university I go to urges us to take this stuff seriously, too.)

all goofing aside I genuinely don't understand the urge to reimagine Taylor Allison Swift as a secretly queer icon when the pop music scene(TM) is like. literally overflowing with women who actually like women. Gaga and Kesha and Miley and Halsey are right there. Rina Sawayama and Hayley Kiyoko and Rebecca Black and Kehlani and Victoria Monét and Miya Folick if you're willing to get slightly less top 100. Janelle and Demi for them nonbinary takes on liking girls. like what are we doing here. like I'm not even saying you can't enjoy Taylor but why would you hang all your little gay hopes on her.

thepuppeteer-andthetrashmob

Isn’t Lady Gaga bisexual?

batmanisagatewaydrug

yes that is indeed why she's on the list of famous women who like women

batmanisagatewaydrug

why have multiple people reblogged this with some horse-assed "um actually most of these people are bi or pan" did I fucking stutter I said they like girls. what is your point. I'm going to kill you.

batmanisagatewaydrug

#op probably has this post muted but the icon is too real.

the icon is because of this post

POV: you make a good post and then encounter tumblr reading comprehension

ericrmalice

btw to just clarify for anyone who sees this reblog of this post

op is basically saying something along the lines of "yea ik taylor swift is bi but like. why is she y'all's only lgbtq+ pop icon when there are all these other lgbtq+ people in the pop scene???"

i might have worded this badly but hopefully i got the main point across

batmanisagatewaydrug

hi op here I certainly did not fucking say Taylor Swift is bi
